While making a scrapbook, everyone usually uses material which is handy or easily available. The focus is mostly on pictures and decorating embellishments as that is the only thing people viewing your scrapbook appreciate. But with time, your scrapbook might show signs of wear and tear. Over the years it will start showing signs of aging and will lose its sheen. Many people might have viewed it, which will deteriorate the quality of the paper used. So while making a scrapbook, it is equally important to pay attention to these little details which would prolong the life of your scrapbook. 1. In a stationary shop while buying your scrapbook supplies, look for thick paper rather than the flimsy ones. It will give sturdy support to your scrapbook and won’t tear easily. Also, it also won’t have dog ears from people browsing through the pages. 2. Using acid-free paper will secure photos in a scrapbook from fading. Paper which contains acid (usually dark colored paper) might damage the quality of the photos and embellishments. 3. Once your scrapbook is complete, get a cardboard box made in which you can store it. You can either recycle boxes in which clothes or shoes are sold, depending on the size of your scrapbook. This way, this precious book won’t come in direct contact of dust or sunlight. 4. Keep the scrapbook away from liquids like water, oil, etc. This would prevent formation of moulds or fungus on the paper. If you are plan on keeping it safe in a shelf or cupboard, make sure there is no water seepage through the walls. 5. While going through the scrapbook, always ask your guests to not use wet hands. Ask them politely to handle it carefully and avoid oil stains (if you are viewing it around a table full of snacks). Make them understand the sentimental value the scrapbook holds for you, and turning the pages vigorously and carelessly would damage the scrapbook.
