You have decided to shoot some maternity pictures of your woman. But have you decided the venue for the photo shoot? Outdoors are a great place to be for the mom to-be, what with a lot of fresh air, sun shine and a natural setting. But will your lady be distracted by the crowd and get reluctant to pose? If you choose to shoot indoors, are you worried that all the pictures might have the same look and feel to it?
Listed below are some tips that might get you and your woman at ease before clicking some professional-looking shoots.
1. While each setting has its plus and minus, the best thing to do would be to consult the mom-to-be and ask for her opinion. Since she (or more precisely her bump) is going to be the in the spotlight, it is very important to see that our subject feels at ease throughout the shoot.
2. The best time to arrange for a maternity photo shoot would be around the time when the mom-to-be is around six to seven months pregnant. If your subject is going to be a first time mom, it would be good to shoot during the seventh or eighth month. If it is going to be her second or third baby bump, the sixth or seventh month mark would be the safest bet.
3. Make sure that the mom-to-be wears comfortable clothes and is able to unbutton or roll up her top to reveal her bulging bump for the photo shoot. Some women are too keen to hide their stretch marks from a previous pregnancy. Be alert to note their expression and body language before you ask them to unbutton or roll up that top. If the lady is unwilling then go in for a long shot of the subject with soft lighting which should do the trick.
4. If you are planning for a close-up shot of the baby bump, then take extra care about the back ground. A picture with the pregnant mom’s silhouette too is a definite thumbs up.
After all, the whole idea of a maternity photo shoot is not about the bump or the mom,but about the feelings that go with it. And the best pictures are those that capture the emotions and feelings attached to it.
Happy shooting!
