What Type of Video Files are Supported by Picasa?

Picasa is a photo organizing & photo sharing website by Google. Picasa is a good place to backup photos & videos. It is easy to use and is accessible from anywhere in the world. Picasa allows you to organize, edit and share photos online. Video uploading is available only in Chrome, Firefox and Safari web browsers. Picasa is not the best video playback software, but you can play movie or video files. Using Picasa, you can shorten your videos by setting a new starting point & ending point. You can adjust Picasa settings to control which file types are displayed in your Picasa Library. For the best experience, make sure your video meets the Picasa's video upload requirements. Several of the given video file types require the correct software for playback.

Following are the Video File Extentions that are supported by Picasa (for Windows):

For general playback in Picasa: .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, .mkv.

For use in Movie Maker: .avi, .asf, .wmv, .mpg, .m2t, .mmv, .m2ts

Following are the Video File Extentions that are not supported by Picasa:

Real Media: .rm, .ram
Windows Media DVR MPEG-2 video: .dvr-ms
MPEG-2 Video Object (Retail DVD standard container): .vob
Flash video: .flv
Video Open Standard commonly containing Theora (video) and Vorbis (audio) layers: .ogg
