Last Updated :Memory card is the most important piece of equipment in your Photo bag. Your camera won't work without a memory card. Memory card is the first repository of your photos. So you need to maintain the memory card for getting best performance from it.
Here are the Tips for Using and Caring for Memory Cards:
- Delete photos on your computer not in camera. If you delete photos in your camera, then it will shorten the life of your memory card. So delete the photos from your computer after downloading, not from the memory card. When you want to empty the entire memory card, reformat it in the camera.
- Remove the memory card safely when connected to your computer. Once you have downloaded photos from memory card to your computer, make sure to follow the proper procedure to eject the card before removing it from your card reader.
- Carry the multiple memory cards instead of one. It is helpful when your one memory card is not working properly. You can use another one.
- You should avoid filling your memory card completely. If you are close to filling the memory card completely, you may not have space for the next couple of photos that you are planning to take.
- You should reformat your memory card periodically. First download your photos on computer and then reformat your memory card otherwise you will lose your photos.
- Make sure to switch Off your camera before removing memory card. If you remove memory card before switching the camera off, then camera gives cards 'Voltage shock'. So check your camera manual to see what they recommend.
- Keep your camera up to date by updating it. Camera manufacturer releases firmware updates from time to time. So these firmware updates will keep your camera up to date with any fixes for errors that they identifies with a camera.
- If you are shooting photos in 'burst' or 'Continuous shooting' mode, then do not switch off your camera too quickly after shooting. Because the camera needs a little time to write all of the data you have taken to the memory card.
