How to download Google Photos album using Google Takeout?
Last Updated :
Google Takeout helps you create an archive with your data from Google products that include Google Drive as well as Google Photos. Users can select different services from the list of options provided. Takeout will then process the request and put all the files into a zip file. Takeout then optionally sends an email notification that the export is completed, at which point the user can download the archive from the downloads section of the website.
Using Google Takeout to download all your photos and videos including backed up files from Android and iOS mobile uploads (Google Photos app) or via the desktop uploader (Google Photos Backup).
Go to https://www.google.com/settings/takeout and log in using a desktop computer
Under "Select data to include," click the "Select none" button
Scroll down to "Google photos" and click into the box (the check mark will be in a green box)
Left of the box is a small down arrow; click on it - "Include all photo albums" is pre-selected - If you want to select specific albums, click "Select photo albums" and see the "note" below.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Next"
Choose how you want to get the data - File type: choose Zip format - Delivery method: Send download link by email
Click "Create archive"
After awhile, you'll receive an email that says your Zip file is ready to download. Download and unzip the file into a drive that has enough room to store it. The file size could be quite large depending on how many photos are in your collection.
You can also rename the zip at this time
Click "Save" and specify a location to download
Unzip the zip file
In Windows Explorer, right-click the zip file, click "Extract All" then "Extract"
When unzipping is finished, you may delete the zip file
Notes:
Takeout does not remove photos from Google Photos.
When a photo is edited in Google Photos the ZIP folder includes both the original and the edited photos.
The ZIP folder also includes .json files with additional data, which can hardly be used.
Your own albums should be complete.
There may be multiple date folders for a date depending on the number of photos and if they were uploaded together
Photos that are in your own albums may or may not also be present in the dated albums. Thus when you download everything using Takeout there may be duplicates between the "Auto Backup" albums listed by date and your own albums.

PicBackMan does exactly what it's supposed to. It's quick and efficient. It runs unobtrusively in the background and has done an excellent job of uploading more than 300GB of photos to 2 different services. After having lost a lot of personal memories to a hard drive crash, it's nice to know that my photos are safe in 2 different places.

LOVE this program! Works better than ANY other program out there that I have found to upload thousands of pictures WITH SUB-FOLDERS to SmugMug!
Thank you so much for what you do! :) #happycustomer

I pointed PicBackMan at a directory structure, and next time I looked - all the photos had uploaded! Pretty cool. I use SmugMug and while I really like it, the process of creating directories in is pretty laborious when you need to make 80+ at a time. This was a breeze. Thank you!

PicBackMan was really easy to setup and has been running for 3 days now backing up all my locally saved photos to Flickr. My photos are really valuable to me so it's great to be able to have them easily backed up to a secure location.

I started with the basic plan, went to premium and now on their platinum plan and it's more than worth the price for me. PicBackMan has saved me many tedious hours of effort moving many files between my various cloud and photo site services and my local computers.

PicBackMan was an answer to many a prayer. How can I get this MASSIVE collection of photos onto a service that cripples uploading? PicBackMan. I uploaded approximately 85,000 photos in less than a month. It would have taken me close to a year to get all of those photos where they needed to go. Nothing short of brilliant.
