Should you add fake blur to your pictures to pretend depth of field?

Last Updated :

The smartphone cameras have been getting some impressive upgrades since last 1 -2 years. And that has replaced carrying your digital cameras around. If you have a descent camera phone, you don't really need a digital camera. But Using a mobile camera does have limitations. It is very difficult to capture the depth of the field using a smartphone camera. The digital cameras & DSLR cameras have lenses that work brilliantly for wide & narrow angles. Whereas, the smartphone camera are equipped with wide angle lenses and tiny sensors. Because of this it is very difficult to achieve a blurred background. Just to add that blurred background effect, people add fake blur with the help of photo editing software, which makes things worse. The photo editing apps or software usually apply a uniform blur effect across the frame. And believe us, it looks unnatural and it ruins your picture completely. You almost end-up making some harsh transitions to your pictures making them blurry which were sharp earlier. Blurring the background is not the way to put focus on the subject. there are other tricks you can apply. If you want to focus on anything particularly in your picture, keep it in the center of your frame. Keep your backgrounds as simple as possible. If necessary, you can move your subject to get a simple background. But never add fake blur to your pictures.

PicBackMan does exactly what it's supposed to. It's quick and efficient. It runs unobtrusively in the background and has done an excellent job of uploading more than 300GB of photos to 2 different services. After having lost a lot of personal memories to a hard drive crash, it's nice to know that my photos are safe in 2 different places.

LOVE this program! Works better than ANY other program out there that I have found to upload thousands of pictures WITH SUB-FOLDERS to SmugMug! Thank you so much for what you do! :) #happycustomer

I pointed PicBackMan at a directory structure, and next time I looked - all the photos had uploaded! Pretty cool. I use SmugMug and while I really like it, the process of creating directories in is pretty laborious when you need to make 80+ at a time. This was a breeze. Thank you!
