There are two ways to import photos from My Photo Stream to your iPhoto Library i.e. 'Automatically' and 'Manually'. By default, photos in My Photo Stream are automatically imported into your iPhoto library. To automatically import photos to iPhoto library from My Photo Stream, you need to turn ON 'Automatic Import' in iPhoto library. To turn ON 'Automatic Import', open 'iPhoto' on your Mac. Go to 'Preferences' and then click 'iCloud'. Select the 'Automatic Import' check box.
If you want to manually import photos from My Photo Stream into iPhoto library, then first you need to turn Off 'Automatic Import' located in the iPhoto preferences. Open 'iPhoto' on your Mac and drag photos from My Photo Stream to 'Photos' which is located in the 'Source List'.
