How to change the privacy setting of photos and videos in Instagram?

Last Updated :

Instagram is one of the popular apps that allow you to share your photos and videos along with transforming them with multiple filters that are present in the app.

Now one concern that arises when you are sharing your photos/videos is that it should not be visible to all those for whom it is not intended to.  For this Instagram provides you an option to make them private i.e. only those whom you allow can see them. The process differs slightly depending on which phone you are using.

For iOS (Apple) users:

  • Open your profile page by tapping on profile page icon.
  • Tap on the “Edit Your Profile” link.
  • Turn on the “Post are Private” setting by tapping on the slider
  • Now tap on Done to confirm.

For Android users:
  • Go to your profile page by tapping on profile page icon.
  • Tap on the Edit Your Profile link.
  • Turn on the “Post are Private” setting
  • Now tap on tick to confirm.

For Windows Phone users:
  • Go to your profile page by tapping on icon.
  • Tap on the Edit Your Profile link.
  • Select “Post are Private” option by checking the box.
  • Now tap on tick to confirm.

Once this setting is turned on, your posts will be visible only to your approved followers. All other Instagram users, other than your followers, won’t be able to see any of your activities. In case, if anyone wants to do so, they’ll have to send you a request. After you accept their request only then they would able to see your posts. However, your name will still appear on other photos you like/comment on. Also people send photos/videos to you even if they’re not one of followers.

PicBackMan does exactly what it's supposed to. It's quick and efficient. It runs unobtrusively in the background and has done an excellent job of uploading more than 300GB of photos to 2 different services. After having lost a lot of personal memories to a hard drive crash, it's nice to know that my photos are safe in 2 different places.

LOVE this program! Works better than ANY other program out there that I have found to upload thousands of pictures WITH SUB-FOLDERS to SmugMug! Thank you so much for what you do! :) #happycustomer

I pointed PicBackMan at a directory structure, and next time I looked - all the photos had uploaded! Pretty cool. I use SmugMug and while I really like it, the process of creating directories in is pretty laborious when you need to make 80+ at a time. This was a breeze. Thank you!
