Dropbox - Memories Dropped in a Backup Box

Last Updated :

Whenever we came across a moment we strive to capture it to retain it as a memory. Technology has provided us with very useful inventions for that but, everything comes in a package having both positive and negative aspects. What if we somehow lose all these important photos due to some technology failures like system crash, viruses and more? The solution to this very problem is to back-up your valuable memories in Dropbox instead of storing it in the system memory. It is a type of online space where you can upload photos and save them at the time of system crisis. Imagine it as a virtual storage where you can save your photos and get the advantage of using it in the future.

Dropbox is a file hosting service (both paid and free) operated by Dropbox, Inc. that offers cloud storage and file synchronization. Dropbox allows users to create a special folder on each of their computers, which Dropbox then synchronizes so that it appears to be the same folder with the same contents regardless of which computer is used to view it.

For free usage you can have 18 GB of space for your photos in which 2 GB is free and rest of the 16 GB can be used by referring your friends to use Dropbox. Paid options provide 100 GB and go up to 500 GB at monthly subscription.

Follow these steps to figure out the entire process-

  • Go to the respective website and get yourself registered for the paid or free subscription as per your requirement.
  • Sign in and access your account and then install the software on your computer. Installing Dropbox on your computer is the best way to make sure your information is always with you. Install the downloaded software to get access to dropbox desktop application.
  • It creates a new folder on your computer called Dropbox (two in case if you have connected your personal and work accounts). Your Dropbox folder works just like any other folder on your hard drive, except everything in your Dropbox folder automatically syncs to the web and to any other computer with Dropbox installed.
  • Move your files into your Dropbox by dragging and dropping them into your Dropbox folder. The files in your Dropbox folder will automatically be synced online and to your other computers. You can even use the ‘Save As’ option to save files directly to your Dropbox folder.

PicBackMan does exactly what it's supposed to. It's quick and efficient. It runs unobtrusively in the background and has done an excellent job of uploading more than 300GB of photos to 2 different services. After having lost a lot of personal memories to a hard drive crash, it's nice to know that my photos are safe in 2 different places.

LOVE this program! Works better than ANY other program out there that I have found to upload thousands of pictures WITH SUB-FOLDERS to SmugMug! Thank you so much for what you do! :) #happycustomer

I pointed PicBackMan at a directory structure, and next time I looked - all the photos had uploaded! Pretty cool. I use SmugMug and while I really like it, the process of creating directories in is pretty laborious when you need to make 80+ at a time. This was a breeze. Thank you!
