What exactly does the iCloud Backup Photo Library option do?

iCloud Photo Library is available with iOS 8.3 and later version, and Yosemite 10.10.3 and later version. You can also access your entire photo library from the Photos app on iCloud.com. It works flawlessly with Photos app and allow users to keep photos and videos safely in iCloud and up to date on your iPhone, iPad, Mac and iCloud.com. You can use iCloud Photo Library too save space on your device. It automatically backup all your photos and videos in high-resolution and in original format. When you enable iCloud Photo Library on your device, it will automatically remove the option to backup your camera roll.

If you want to enable "iCloud Photo Library", tap "Settings" on your iOS device and tap "iCloud" and then tap "Photos". You have another option to enable "iCloud Photo Library on your iOS device i.e. go to "Settings" and tap "Photos & Camera" and then select a storage setting.

If you turn Off the iCloud Photo Library option and want to backup photos to iCloud, then go to "Settings" > "iCloud" > "Storage" > "Manage Storage" > "This Phone" > "Photo library".
