How to download iPhone Photos from My Photo stream to Mac?

Last Updated :

Photo stream store your 30 days worth of your latest photos you’ve taken with your iPhone. But if your limit exceeds 1000, your device will store sonly the latest 1000 photos in the Photo Stream. It is better if you take them off your Photo stream and save them locally on your Mac machine. If you do want to use Photo Stream and want to download and store those photos locally in your Mac, here's the step by step guide to download iPhone Photos from My Photo stream to Mac
  1. Ensure that you are running the latest OSX, you should then already have iCloud installed.
  2. Open iCloud and turn on Photos -> My Photo Stream. Unlike iCloud options in the PC, the Mac version doesn’t have an option to configure the path where photos are stored.  So where are they going?  Nowhere really, unless you use application like iPhoto or Aperture.
  3. Open iPhoto. Go to Preferences and open the iCloud tab.  You then need to turn on My Photo Stream and Automatic Import. You should now see the iCloud folder under the Shared section.  Click on this and you can find My Photo Stream folder along with other Shared Albums.
  4. Your photos should start to be downloaded automatically.  From here you can do what ever you want with your photos as per usual.

PicBackMan does exactly what it's supposed to. It's quick and efficient. It runs unobtrusively in the background and has done an excellent job of uploading more than 300GB of photos to 2 different services. After having lost a lot of personal memories to a hard drive crash, it's nice to know that my photos are safe in 2 different places.

LOVE this program! Works better than ANY other program out there that I have found to upload thousands of pictures WITH SUB-FOLDERS to SmugMug! Thank you so much for what you do! :) #happycustomer

I pointed PicBackMan at a directory structure, and next time I looked - all the photos had uploaded! Pretty cool. I use SmugMug and while I really like it, the process of creating directories in is pretty laborious when you need to make 80+ at a time. This was a breeze. Thank you!
