How to Create a New iPhoto Library or Switch Between Libraries?

iPhoto allows you to create Library to organize your photos, albums, projects, slideshows, books, cards, calendars. You can create multiple photo libraries and then switch between the libraries. But, you can edit photos or modify albums in only one library at a time. iPhoto allows you to choose a location to store the new photo library including an external hard drive, if you have one connected.

Here are the steps to Create a New iPhoto Library and Switch Between Libraries:


To Create a New Photo Library:
  1. Quit "iPhoto" on your Mac.
  2. Hold down the "Option" key as you open iPhoto.
  3. A pop-up window opens up. Click "Create New" button.
  4. Type a name to a new iPhoto Library.
  5. Choose a location to store the new iPhoto Library.
  6. Click "Save" button.
  7. You will see your new iPhoto Library at "Source List" in iPhoto.

To Switch Between Photo Libraries:
  1. Quit "iPhoto" on your Mac.
  2. Hold down the "Option" key as you open iPhoto.
  3. Select the photo library which you want to switch to.
  4. Click "Choose" button.
