How to Auto Upload Photos from Mac to Google Photos?

Last Updated :

You have synced and backup your Android, iPhone photos with Google Photos, but what about those photos which are saved on Windows PC or Mac. Now Google has Desktop Uploader app for Google Photos to automatically upload photos from your computer to Goggle Photos account. To do so, you can download and install Google Photos desktop uploader on your computer. You can find the app by opening the sidebar on Google Photos in your browser and clicking "App Downloads".

Once you have downloaded and installed "Google Photos Backup" app, it will ask you to login into your Google account. Now you can select which folders Google Photos will automatically backup. You can check the "Desktop" and "Picture" folder along with "Cameras & Storage Cards". If you have photos on your camera's SD card, then Google Photos will get them to backup. It also allows you to uncheck the default options listed and other folders as auto backup sources. It will ask you to choose photo size i.e "High quality" or "Original". Click "Start Backup" button. The Google Photos Backup Desktop Uploader did not backup your entire library contained in the Photos app on your Mac. But you can select some photos to backup on Google Photos. In order to backup any existing photos to Google Photos from the Photos app, you will need to export them.

PicBackMan does exactly what it's supposed to. It's quick and efficient. It runs unobtrusively in the background and has done an excellent job of uploading more than 300GB of photos to 2 different services. After having lost a lot of personal memories to a hard drive crash, it's nice to know that my photos are safe in 2 different places.

LOVE this program! Works better than ANY other program out there that I have found to upload thousands of pictures WITH SUB-FOLDERS to SmugMug! Thank you so much for what you do! :) #happycustomer

I pointed PicBackMan at a directory structure, and next time I looked - all the photos had uploaded! Pretty cool. I use SmugMug and while I really like it, the process of creating directories in is pretty laborious when you need to make 80+ at a time. This was a breeze. Thank you!
