The answer of this question is "Yes". You can choose folders in your OneDrive that you don't want to sync on your Mac. When you first set up OneDrive, you can choose folders to sync. To do this, click "Choose folders to Sync" option. If you forget to do this when you set up OneDrive, then you can do this whenever you need it from Preferences'. To do it from 'Preferences', Click "OneDrive" icon located in the menu bar. Click "Preference" and click "Choose Folders" tab and then click "Choose Folders" option. Any changes you make in OneDrive folder will automatically sync into the OneDrive cloud. But, anything you add to OneDrive from the website or other devices won't be synched to your Mac unless they are in the folders you choose to sync. OneDrive doesn't allow you to choose to sync files or folders shared with you.
You can install PicBackMan's SkyDrive uploader for Mac from the website and start backing up photos and videos.
