The Photo Backup Strategy & Why it is Important

Our digital photographs have become a valuable asset these days. The photo sets include various priceless moments captured over the period of time. We frequently ask ourselves how to go about backing up our images like a pro. For I believe that hard drives may malfunction anytime, memory cards and DVDs can go corrupt, the computer may crash etc. God forbid if it happens, all of our precious and priceless moments captured in photographs are gone.

But if you seriously want to preserve your digital photos more securely then you need to think about creating a file management and backup workflow. If you are an avid photographer you have to set up a routine to take a regular backup of your photos. Having multiple copies of all your photographs is necessary. You may think that creating multiple backups is a cumbersome process, but actually, it isn’t. With the help of photo backup software and tools, creating redundant backups has become incredibly easy. The most effective photo backup solutions available these days are hard drives.

There are a number of ways to go about backing up your photos onto hard drives, but we highly recommend to use multiple devices. Keeping an on-site as well as an off-site backup is an effective and efficient photo backup strategy. If your pocket allows, you might also consider a RAID system to have an on-site redundant backup. Most of the RAID systems combine multiple disks into one large redundant array. If any of these disks fail, the data is backed up on other disks in the device. And, when you replace failed drive, the array is rebuilt, and redundancy is restored.

At times you find that on-site backup is not enough. Especially in case of theft or natural disaster. At this point, you should consider an off-site backup solution as well. The off-site photo backup solution allows you to keep your photos safe away from your current location. It is called the cloud storage. You can access your photographs from anywhere in the world. All you need is an internet connection. To know more about these off-site photo backup solutions read “Best Sites for Photo Backup and Storage

PicBackMan does exactly what it's supposed to. It's quick and efficient. It runs unobtrusively in the background and has done an excellent job of uploading more than 300GB of photos to 2 different services. After having lost a lot of personal memories to a hard drive crash, it's nice to know that my photos are safe in 2 different places.

LOVE this program! Works better than ANY other program out there that I have found to upload thousands of pictures WITH SUB-FOLDERS to SmugMug! Thank you so much for what you do! :) #happycustomer

I pointed PicBackMan at a directory structure, and next time I looked - all the photos had uploaded! Pretty cool. I use SmugMug and while I really like it, the process of creating directories in is pretty laborious when you need to make 80+ at a time. This was a breeze. Thank you!
