The Best Way to Organize & Backup Your Photo Album

Digital photos provide us a quick and easy access to revisit our favorite memories and priceless moments. However, if you haven’t organized them in a proper way, browsing through is a big problem. You need to have an organized plan to backup your digital photos. So that locating, searching and sharing photo becomes easy.

Today, what we usually do is we organize them into folders & sub-folders on our system. But the real need is getting some redundancy and photo backup system in place for all those precious memories. This photo backup plan will make sure that all your digital photographs are organized and safely backed up.

What you need to do:

  1. Double check your camera and delete photos that you think are not worth keeping. For example, photos that are blurred, dark or duplicate. This can also be done after uploading them onto your computer.

  2. Now segregate your photos. Date your photos and put them in right folders. You can also name them, for e.g. Travel(2010), so this folder contains all your travel photographs of that year. Having things in separate folders makes it easy to browse and locate.

  3. Print the ones that are close to your heart.Make a folder in your system that contains photographs you want to print. Check for any sale on prints and you know what to do.

  4. Once your prints are ready, organize them into albums. Don’t forget to label them just as you named your folders. Locating an album becomes dead easy.

  5. Regular photo backup – Make a backup plan, weekly or monthly depending on the number of pictures you click. You can backup your photos onto an external hard drive, online accounts, network, DVDs or thumb drive. Use a photo backup software that automatically detects new photos and upload them to your online accounts. With this software, you can choose to backup on one or more account to instantly create redundant backups.

With this system in place you can be rest assured that your entire photo collection is safely backed up and is easily accessible.

PicBackMan does exactly what it's supposed to. It's quick and efficient. It runs unobtrusively in the background and has done an excellent job of uploading more than 300GB of photos to 2 different services. After having lost a lot of personal memories to a hard drive crash, it's nice to know that my photos are safe in 2 different places.

LOVE this program! Works better than ANY other program out there that I have found to upload thousands of pictures WITH SUB-FOLDERS to SmugMug! Thank you so much for what you do! :) #happycustomer

I pointed PicBackMan at a directory structure, and next time I looked - all the photos had uploaded! Pretty cool. I use SmugMug and while I really like it, the process of creating directories in is pretty laborious when you need to make 80+ at a time. This was a breeze. Thank you!
