How to move Photos from iPhone to iPad using AirDrop?

Last Updated :

If you have an iPhone 5 and an iPad 4 or newer, you can use AirDrop. With AirDrop, you can instantly share your photos, videos, locations, and more with other Apple devices nearby. AirDrop lets you quickly and easily transfer files between iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Here's how you can move photos from iPhone to iPad via AirDrop:
  1. Ensure you meet the requirements. Using AirDrop is one of the quickest and easiest ways to send a photo from the iPhone to an iPad, but requires an iPhone 5 or newer and an iPad 4 or newer. Both devices must be running iOS 7 or later.
  2. Open the Control Center on both the iPhone and iPad. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open it.
  3. Enable AirDrop by tapping the AirDrop button. You will be prompted to select between "Contacts Only" or "Everyone". Select "Contacts Only". This will prevent unauthorized users from sending you files, useful in crowded areas.
    - Make sure to enable this on both devices.
  4. Open the photo you want to share. Use the Photos app on the iPhone to the find the photo that you want to send to the iPad.
  5. Tap the "Share" button. This looks like a box with an arrow coming out of the top.
  6. Select any additional photos (optional). You can select additional photos to transfer, but some users have reported issues with sending a lot at once.
  7. Tap your iPad at the top of the Share panel. You should see your iPad in the "Tap to share with AirDrop" section of the Share panel.
    - If you don't see the iPad, ensure that it is close enough (a few feet) and that AirDrop is enabled.
  8. Tap "Accept" on your iPad. This message will appear a few moments after your select your iPad from the iPhone's Share menu. Accepting the photo will open it in your Photos app.

PicBackMan does exactly what it's supposed to. It's quick and efficient. It runs unobtrusively in the background and has done an excellent job of uploading more than 300GB of photos to 2 different services. After having lost a lot of personal memories to a hard drive crash, it's nice to know that my photos are safe in 2 different places.

LOVE this program! Works better than ANY other program out there that I have found to upload thousands of pictures WITH SUB-FOLDERS to SmugMug! Thank you so much for what you do! :) #happycustomer

I pointed PicBackMan at a directory structure, and next time I looked - all the photos had uploaded! Pretty cool. I use SmugMug and while I really like it, the process of creating directories in is pretty laborious when you need to make 80+ at a time. This was a breeze. Thank you!
