How to Keep iPhoto from Launching When Connecting Your iPhone to Mac?

Last Updated :

When you connect your iPhone to your Mac, every time iPhoto launches automatically. This is very frustrating thing for iPhone users. There are no settings on either your iPhone or iPhoto to change this. This issue can be solved by "Image Capture" app with one snall preference change. The "Image Capture" app detects when you connect a camera or camera-containing device, such as your iPhone to your Mac.

Following are the steps to Keep iPhoto from Launching When Connecting Your iPhone to Your Mac:

  1. Connect your iPhone to your Mac using the USB cable.
  2. Close iPhoto when it opens up.
  3. Open your applications folder and launch the "Image Capture" app.
  4. You will see a box with your device name at the bottom of the window.
  5. If the box is not visible, then click the little triangle located at the bottom left of the window.
  6. A "Connecting this iPhone opens:" window opens up.
  7. Select "No application" option from the menu.
  8. This tells your system to no longer open iPhoto as soon as your phone is connected.
  9. Quit "Image Capture" app.
  10. When your iPhone is connected again, iPhoto will no longer open automatically.

PicBackMan does exactly what it's supposed to. It's quick and efficient. It runs unobtrusively in the background and has done an excellent job of uploading more than 300GB of photos to 2 different services. After having lost a lot of personal memories to a hard drive crash, it's nice to know that my photos are safe in 2 different places.

LOVE this program! Works better than ANY other program out there that I have found to upload thousands of pictures WITH SUB-FOLDERS to SmugMug! Thank you so much for what you do! :) #happycustomer

I pointed PicBackMan at a directory structure, and next time I looked - all the photos had uploaded! Pretty cool. I use SmugMug and while I really like it, the process of creating directories in is pretty laborious when you need to make 80+ at a time. This was a breeze. Thank you!
