How to determine if a photo or video is stored in Google Photos or in Google Drive?

Last Updated :

You can backup your photos using Google Photos or Google Drive. To avoid storing duplicates, we recommend backing up using one app. But if you use both the apps, you may get confused as to which photos are saved where. In order to determine where a photo or video is stored in your google drive, follow the process below:
  1. Go to Google Photos settings
  2. Under "Google Drive" select "Show Google Drive photos & videos in your Photos library" (the selection button will turn blue when selected)
  3. Go to Google Photos
  4. Click in the search bar
  5. Scroll down and click the first "Show more" then "Google Drive"
  6. You will be shown all the photos from Google Drive which are also visible in Google Photos.
  7. Check your Google Drive quota

PicBackMan does exactly what it's supposed to. It's quick and efficient. It runs unobtrusively in the background and has done an excellent job of uploading more than 300GB of photos to 2 different services. After having lost a lot of personal memories to a hard drive crash, it's nice to know that my photos are safe in 2 different places.

LOVE this program! Works better than ANY other program out there that I have found to upload thousands of pictures WITH SUB-FOLDERS to SmugMug! Thank you so much for what you do! :) #happycustomer

I pointed PicBackMan at a directory structure, and next time I looked - all the photos had uploaded! Pretty cool. I use SmugMug and while I really like it, the process of creating directories in is pretty laborious when you need to make 80+ at a time. This was a breeze. Thank you!
