How to delete Google Photos Backup photos?

Last Updated :

Finding and deleting only the backup photos may be difficult because there is no special album for backed up photos. Searching Google Photos for #autobackup may help to find all the photos in the backup, you can definitely try the following method and see if it works for you:
  1. If you want to clear everything (photos and videos) from your Google Photos account and start a new backup using Google Photos Backup, please follow the directions below. Clearing all photos and videos will also clear out any albums you may have. If you had shared links to those albums, the links will no longer work.
  2. Make sure your original photos are safely stored somewhere else (like an external hard drive or any other cloud account).
  3. Download everything using Google Takeout
  4. Delete all your pictures and videos; directions are here
  5. Deleted pictures no longer appear on Google Photos Library and Albums, all synced devices, and at Google Drive
  6. Empty the Trash
  7. Uninstall the Google Photos Backup app
  8. Delete the following folder on your computer
  9. On Windows: %localappdata%GoogleGoogle Photos Backup (copy/paste the path into the address bar in "Windows Explorer" or "File Explorer")
  10. On Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Google Photos Backup/
  11. Download and reinstall the Google Photos Backup app
  12. Set up the backup app to backup your computer files and devices.

PicBackMan does exactly what it's supposed to. It's quick and efficient. It runs unobtrusively in the background and has done an excellent job of uploading more than 300GB of photos to 2 different services. After having lost a lot of personal memories to a hard drive crash, it's nice to know that my photos are safe in 2 different places.

LOVE this program! Works better than ANY other program out there that I have found to upload thousands of pictures WITH SUB-FOLDERS to SmugMug! Thank you so much for what you do! :) #happycustomer

I pointed PicBackMan at a directory structure, and next time I looked - all the photos had uploaded! Pretty cool. I use SmugMug and while I really like it, the process of creating directories in is pretty laborious when you need to make 80+ at a time. This was a breeze. Thank you!
