How to Create a New Photo Library in Photos App for Mac?

Photos app allows you to create a new photo library for specific purposes like personal, private, work and more. There is not mentioned about a limit to how many new photo libraries you can make in Photos app for Mac. Once you have create a new photo library in Photos app, you can connect a camera or memory card to import photos. You can also import photos by turning ON iCloud Photo Library or choose import from the File menu. A new photo library will not contain any of the previously imported photos. If you want them, you need to add them again.

Here are the steps to Create a New Photo Library in Photos App for Mac:

  1. Quit "Photos" app on your Mac.
  2. Re-launch the "Photos" app in OS X while holding down the "Option" key.
  3. A "Choose Library" window opens up.
  4. Click "Create New..." button.
  5. Give a name for new photo library and choose a location on the Mac to store the new Photo Library.
  6. Click "Ok" button.
  7. A new and completely blank photo library will appear.
  8. Now you can import photos by connecting a camera or memory card, or from an iCloud Photo Library and iCloud account, or from File menu.
