How to change Privacy settings on Foursquare on iPhone?

Foursquare is an application designed for smartphone users which are used as a local search and discovery service to find nearby places that are discovered or reviewed by other Foursquare users. As of December 2013, there are approximately 45 million registered users around the world. Foursquare was released for Android and iPhone users on March 8, 2011. Until July 2014, Foursquare had the ‘check-in’ feature as an integral part. However, in May 2014, the company launched ‘Swarm’ – a companion app to Foursquare as a separate app for location sharing.

Through Foursquare, users can click photos at places they ‘check-in’ with Swarm and can share this picture with the Foursquare community. However, if you don’t like to share often and are very particular about what you share publicly, you should change your default privacy settings.

Following are ways through which you can change your Foursquare privacy settings on your iPhone.

• Launch the Foursquare App on your iPhone or visit Foursquare’s official website (www.foursquare.com/settings/privacy)    .
• In the app, tap ‘Settings’ which is located just below your profile picture.
• Scroll down and tap ‘Privacy Settings’. This page will allow to you see and control your privacy settings. You can check/uncheck the following privacy options:-
  a.    Link to your Facebook profile from your public foursquare profile.
  b.    Allowing Foursquare to use your device’s background location, even when the app is closed, including for features like sending you notifications with local recommendations or tips.
  c.    Allowing Foursquare to serve behaviorally targeted ads outside of the Foursquare app and Foursquare.com.
  d.    Letting your followers send you tips and places.
• The privacy settings for ‘check-ins’ can be accessed and changed from the ‘Swarm’ app.
• Additionally, you can revoke or provide access to other connected apps from the privacy settings depending on your preferences.
