How to Add Photos to a Video in iMovie?

iMovie allows you to add photos as well as video clips to your video project to create a customized iMovie reel. You can easily organize your photos by dates, events or vacations. When you click on camera icon in iMovie you will see all of your photos located at the bottom right corner of the iMovie window. Here you will see a display window which allows you to sort photos by displaying through options such as 'Photo Albums', 'Events', 'Last 12 months', by date, by photo program or by viewing all the photos in your computer's library. It allows you to search for a specific photo by using search field.

Here are the steps to Add Photos to a Video in iMovie:

  1. Open "iMovie" on your Mac.
  2. Select "Preferences" from the menu.
  3. Check mark "Show Advanced Tools" option.
  4. You can choose existing iMovie project or create a new iMovie project to add photos.
  5. Choose existing project to add photos.
  6. Click "Photos" button designated by a camera icon located top right of the middle menu pane.
  7. You will see all of your photos in the bottom right corner of the iMovie windows.
  8. Select the photos which you want to add to your iMovie project.
  9. Click on 1 of your highlighted photos and drag them into the video clip editing/viewing timeline screen located at the left diagonal of the photo display screen.
  10. Release your mouse button to drop selected photos into the timeline screen. Drop your photos where you want to play within your other iMovie clips.
