There is a general belief in photography that says if you really want to improve your photography skills, then you must move closer to your subjects. We believe that this belief is true in all its senses. The best way to keep from including too many things in your frame is to fill it with just your subject and nothing else. Filling your subject from end to end in the frame leaves no doubt as to what you intended to capture. There are two ways to fill your frame with just your subject; either use a telephoto lens or move closer to the subject physically. In both the cases you can achieve similar results.

Filling your frame with just your subject has an added advantage. The intensity with which a viewer looks at your picture increases. Making your subject look bigger in the frame involve viewers. Foe example a portrait that contains just the face, chin to forehead, directly compel viewers to make and eye-to-eye contact with the subject in the portrait. The common problem with most of us is that we assume that our frame is filled but the reality is that it is not. It is because, when we concentrate on a subject, our brain is tricked and made to believe that the subject is close to us, but the fact remains that it is not. So what's the solution in this case? The only solution is take a few steps forward and get closer to the subject. Just when you feel that your subject is close enough to photograph, move your eye around the frame and check if there is something that can be omitted.  Just when everything looks perfect, in place, click. The best rule to follow is "When in doubt, move closer to the subject".
