Google Photos allows you to access your photos from any device that has a web browser or a Google Photos app. You can easily view and manage your photos and videos in both Google Photos and Google Drive. If you install Google Drive Desktop app on your computer, you can keep your photos, videos and files safe and easy to reach from anywhere.
If you are new to Google Photos or starting fresh with Google Photos, then go to Google Drive website and enter the settings. Check the box located in front of "Create a Google Photos folder". Once you checked this, a new folder will appear in your Google Drive which is called "Google Photos". No matter that you have uploaded photos under 'High quality' or 'Original' setting in Google Photos, the photos seem to retain their original file names and extensions from they were uploaded. If you made any changes to your photo in Google Photos app, then those changes will not be reflected in these local files.
Now you can download your photos to computer for a local copy using the Google Drive Desktop Application. First download "Google Drive Desktop Application on your computer and launch it. It will create a special folder i.e. 'Google Drive' folder on your computer. If you add photos, videos or files in your Google Drive folder, it will sync them with the cloud. So if you made any changes in Google Drive folder, it will reflect on the cloud. It has a 'Selective syncing' option located in the Preferences, which allows you to choose only specific folders to download to your local machine.
