Last Updated :

Photographing a perfect sunset is just a matter of adjusting some camera settings, believing in your artistic judgement and a location to capture it. If all these things are in place you are ought to take an astonishing sunset picture. Follow the tips below to take an extremely impressive Sunset picture.

How to set a camera to photograph a sunset:

Exposure

To photograph a beautiful sunset, you would want to make sure that you don't end up with too dark or too light picture. Play with exposure to make sure that your pictures are neither too light or too dark.

ISO

The sky during the sunset is still bright enough. So, set your ISO to the lowest setting on your camera. It gives you scope of correcting any underexposed pictures.Don't increase it unless you have to.

White-Balance

This is applicable to digital cameras only. Using an 'Auto' is not something you should try when photographing sunsets.
Your camera senses see too much red in your scene and try to balance it out. If you want to capture the true colors of sunset, manually set the white-balance. you may also choose to select 'Daylight' or 'Shade' mode on your camera. But preferably set it manually.

Know your camera

There is a lot of difference between the settings and features offered in earlier cameras & what the cameras offer these days. Knowing your camera will help you understand what you have and what all adjustments you'll have to make. If you have an advance camera, you might not have to adjust your white balance. Some cameras are smarter about photographing sunsets than others. Read your camera manual and see what you camera is capable for.

PicBackMan does exactly what it's supposed to. It's quick and efficient. It runs unobtrusively in the background and has done an excellent job of uploading more than 300GB of photos to 2 different services. After having lost a lot of personal memories to a hard drive crash, it's nice to know that my photos are safe in 2 different places.

I pointed PicBackMan at a directory structure, and next time I looked - all the photos had uploaded! Pretty cool. I use SmugMug and while I really like it, the process of creating directories in is pretty laborious when you need to make 80+ at a time. This was a breeze. Thank you!
