How to Download Previously Stored Google Photos Original Photos on Drive?

Google Photos allows you to upload free unlimited High Quality photos to your account. Previously, it stores original photos to your account and uses Google storage plan. So, if you want to free up the storage space and upload unlimited photos to Google Photos, then you need to convert those previously photos to the actual free unlimited storage. To do so, you need to download everything, delete them and then upload again. You can use Google Takeout to download everything from Google Photos.

Here are the steps to Download Previously Stored Google Photos Original Photos on Drive:

  1. Go to the "Google Takeout" page or "https://www.google.com/settings/takeout".
  2. Choose "Select None" to remove all items from the backup.
  3. Click the slider located next to Google Photos to the Green check box to add it to the backup.
  4. Click "Next" button located at the bottom of the page.
  5. Click "Create Archive" button.
  6. Once the archive is ready, download all the pieces of the archive.
  7. Unzip all your "Google Takeout" files to a single folder on desktop.
  8. Go to "Google Photos" or "Google Photos in Drive" and delete all your photos.
  9. Make sure that your Drive storage page shows no storage used by Google Photos.
  10. Download and install "Google Photos Desktop Uploader" on your computer.
  11. Sign in to your Google account.
  12. Select the unzipped folder which you want to backup.
  13. During setup, you must choose a photo size i.e "High quality" or "Original".
  14. Click "Start Backup" button.
  15. Click "Ok" button.
