You can copy imported photos into your Photos library, so they are easier to backup and aare automatically included in your iCloud Photo Library. To copy imported photos to your Photos library, open "Photos" app on your Mac and click "Photos" menu and then select "Preferences..." option. Check mark "Copy items to the Photos library" option located in the General preferences and close the preferences window to save the change.
