How to Backup Your iPhone or iPad Before Updating to iOS 9?

If you want to backup your photos and videos to iCloud, you must need an iCloud account and be signed in to it. iCloud has a Auto Backup feature which allows you to backup photos and videos automatically. iCloud Backups trigger when your iPhone or iPad is plugged in and on Wi-Fi connection.

Steps to Backup your iPhone or iPad using iCloud:

  1. Launch "Settings" app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Select "iCloud".
  3. Tap "Backup".
  4. Move slider from left to right to turn ON "iCloud Backup" located under the Backup section.
  5. Tap "Back Up Now".
  6. Wait for your backup to complete before updating.

Steps to Backup your iPhone or iPad using iTunes on your Mac:

  1. Connect your iPhone or iPad to computer via USB cable that came along with your device.
  2. Open "iTunes" and click on the device icon located in the tab bar.
  3. In the "Summary" section, scroll to "Backups".
  4. Change the "Automatically Back Up" section to "This Computer".
  5. Click "Back Up Now" located under 'Manually Back Up and Restore' section.
