Backup Photos – Strategy to Execute

Backup photos has evolved over the years. Earlier our grand parents or great grand parents had saved photos in the form of prints and negatives for their future generations. But today as we no more use film cameras, it is necessary to have multiple options to backup photos. These options need to be ones we can rely on.

Using a digital camera is a lot easier than using a film camera. But, it has a disadvantage also, and that is how do you keep your photos safe and secure from any malfunction or technical failure.

Some people do use external devices to backup photos, but the reality is that you can not rely completely on just one digital storage as it is susceptible to failure. We can not predict a failure but, we can plan and prepare for such instances by using multiple media to backup photos.
These options are :

  • Two is better than one. While using CD / DVD as a medium to backup photos, make 2 extra. Now you have 3 CDs, keep one for regular use, one as backup and give one to a family member or a friends.
  • Similarly, you can backup photos on an external hard drive too, but make sure they are saved at another location as well.
  • Another good option to backup photos is the online storage. It has become very popular these days. All your photos are safely stored in your online accounts.

But, coming to think of doing it all by self, seems to be a tiring and time-consuming task. For this issue we have various photo uploading tools, they are not only easy to use but are quick and safe too. There is software that automatically detects new photos in the folder and upload them to various online accounts like Foursquare, Instagram, Google Photos, Facebook, Flickr etc. And it also backup photos in your online albums to your computer. This software upload and backup photos to your desired location in no time. All you have to do is specify the online account to want to sync with, rest is done by the software.

PicBackMan does exactly what it's supposed to. It's quick and efficient. It runs unobtrusively in the background and has done an excellent job of uploading more than 300GB of photos to 2 different services. After having lost a lot of personal memories to a hard drive crash, it's nice to know that my photos are safe in 2 different places.

LOVE this program! Works better than ANY other program out there that I have found to upload thousands of pictures WITH SUB-FOLDERS to SmugMug! Thank you so much for what you do! :) #happycustomer

I pointed PicBackMan at a directory structure, and next time I looked - all the photos had uploaded! Pretty cool. I use SmugMug and while I really like it, the process of creating directories in is pretty laborious when you need to make 80+ at a time. This was a breeze. Thank you!
