How to give people view-only access to your Dropbox files on a Windows device?

Last Updated :

There are times when you just want people to view the files in your DropBox folder without being able to change them. To accomplish this you can set view-only permissions for some or all members of your Dropbox folder. View-only permissions enable members to always see the latest versions of the files without having the ability to edit them. Below is the step by step process to do it on a Windows Phone as well as Windows Tablet device.

Windows Phone
  1. Tap and hold any file or folder name to reveal a list of actions.
  2. Tap Share.
  3. Select whether you'd like to send a link or copy the link to your clipboard. Selecting Send a link gives you the option to use other apps, such as email, text messages, or social media.
  4. Fill out information as needed to send or post the link.
Windows Tablet
  1. Tap on the folder or file you want to share to open it.
  2. Tap …
  3. Select whether you'd like to send a link or copy the link to your clipboard. Sending a link will provide several options to share, such as email, Facebook, or other apps.
  4. Fill out information as needed to send or post the link.

PicBackMan does exactly what it's supposed to. It's quick and efficient. It runs unobtrusively in the background and has done an excellent job of uploading more than 300GB of photos to 2 different services. After having lost a lot of personal memories to a hard drive crash, it's nice to know that my photos are safe in 2 different places.

LOVE this program! Works better than ANY other program out there that I have found to upload thousands of pictures WITH SUB-FOLDERS to SmugMug! Thank you so much for what you do! :) #happycustomer

I pointed PicBackMan at a directory structure, and next time I looked - all the photos had uploaded! Pretty cool. I use SmugMug and while I really like it, the process of creating directories in is pretty laborious when you need to make 80+ at a time. This was a breeze. Thank you!
