It is easy to backup photos from iPhone to Google Drive using the Google share sheets. Both the Google Drive and the Google Photos app for iOS allows you to upload photos and videos automatically. Google Drive is uploaded its iOS app, so you can now upload photos from photo library without needing to leave the "Photos" app and open the Google Drive app. The Google Drive iOS app will show you its own share sheet, which allows you to add Google Drive as an option for the "Share" button for the "Photos" app.
To set it up, open "Photos" app and tap "Share" link for a group of photos. You can also open an individual photo and tap "Share" button located at the bottom left corner on the screen. Tap "More" button and move the slider from left to right to turn ON "Google Drive" and then tap "Done" button. Now return to Share menu, you will see the Google Drive option listed among your options.
Now, when you tap to share to Google Drive, you will be able to choose the Google Drive account and the folder where you want to share the photo. It also allows you to rename the photos that you are uploading.
If you have both the Google Photos and Google Drive app on your iOS device, then there is one setting to take a look at in Google Photos to control whether the photos and videos you upload to Google Drive also appear in "Photos". To do so, open "Google Photos" app and tap "Menu" icon located at the top left corner on the screen and the tap "Settings" option. Move the slider from left to right to turn ON "Show Google Drive photos & videos in your Photos library". Once you enable this option, the photos and videos you upload to Google Drive will show up in "Photos".
